LillySerpentine Fusion Bellydance

Dance with all your HEART and your SOUL will shine

Maia aka: Mary Powell

I was introduced to Bellydance in 2003. With a passion for creation and the love of art I picked up on the mysterious and awe inspiring Dance form right from the start. The costumes, music, emotions and people that shared the love of dance created a world of new light for me. Starting out with a fusion of Egyptian and Turkish flare and ending with Tribal Fusion and Fusion Bellydance.

The main influencial teachers that continues to be my inspiration include; Nialee, Suhalia Salimpour, Rachel Brice and the Indigo Dancers, and FCBD. Although I am a Fusion Bellydancer I continue to study individual styles and concepts from a variety of teachers.

I started LillySerpentine Fusion Bellydance to create an environment that was open to individual growth and to spread the love for all Bellydance styles. Focusing on the Fusion of Dance and the Modern inspiration, I hope to help Bellydance students find that unique dancer within.

Costume Design and Fashion Design:

I find myself deconstructing and re-constructing Clothes and Costumes on a daily basis, I daydream of pieces and creating 2-D patterns from 3-D pieces I create mentally. When I go out in the world of stores and see everyday products that one would not think of to use in fashion I see a different use and a special trinket for my creations.  Like Frankenstein, I create life from multiple sources. Although my fashions do not end up the hunted monster, they end up being the prowess hunter in dance.

All my designs start with music, I listen to a piece and a captivating scene plays out in my mind as the fabulous colors and movements form, so does the costume design or designs.  The spirit of the dance shows me the truth in beauty and the fantabulous wonders of the beauty within each dancer.
